Java Download Error 1618

PROBLEM

Error 1618 isn’t unique to Java. It is an error from Microsoft Installer (.msi) stating that another.msi is currently being processed. You see, the Microsoft Installer, msiexec.exe, can only process one installation at a time. This error will be encountered when one MSI is attempted to be installed while another is currently processing. In this video I show you the only solution for the java installer: download failed error that happens while java is updating automatically.

The following error is encountered either during installation/removal, in the Product's Installation Log file, or in Window's Event Logs:
'Error 1618: 'Another installation is already in progress'

Product Installation Logs can be located:

  1. Try restarting the computer and check if you are able to download the application. This will stop and end any program that was being downloaded which might be causing the issue. Method 2: Restart Windows installer service. Press Windows key + R to open the run command. Type services.msc and press enter.
  2. While installing Java on your Windows 10 computer you may face an error code 1618. Though this problem is prevalent with the Java installation case, some users also complained about a similar issue while installing Skype on their systems.
  3. When you attempt to run Windows Installer, or a program dependent on it, you may have experienced the 1618 error. This error means that you have more than one instance of Windows Installer running and so the process cannot continue.

SOLUTION

This Error indicates that the Windows Installer Service is currently being utilized for another installation or update at this time. Alongside other program's Installations, Windows Updates can also occupy the Windows Installer service and will thus need to complete prior to running another installation.
However, if a previous installation was unsuccessful and did not close properly, you can end the Windows Installer Process manually:
  1. Reboot the computer and try installing again
  2. If the error returns, attempt to find any applications currently installing and close them
  3. If unable to find an application running updates, open Task Manager and navigate to the 'Processes' tab
  4. Select 'Show processes from all users' if it is not already.
  5. Locate and end any 'MSIExec.exe' entries you see.
After these steps, attempt the installation once more.

Like many software, problems may occur in Java as well. Also, there are a lot of software applications which require Java as a dependency for the software application to function properly, especially in the Windows operating system environment.

When using the stand-alone Java for the purpose of developing websites, desktop and mobile applications, Java developers require a framework as well as a run-time environment, which are called the Java Development Kit (JDK) and Java Runtime Environment (JRE), respectively. Sometimes, these are also needed by other software applications (such as Microsoft’s Skype) for carrying out the needed functionality on the Windows operating system platform.

However, there is one such error which generally occurs when a user tries to install Java on his/her machine that is powered by the Windows operating system. Configure Windows updates

When you run the default automatic updates on your Windows-based desktop or laptop, several files, applications, and security patches also get downloaded from Microsoft center, which are then installed immediately in the background on your system. However, this often results in rendering other software programs and/or settings to malfunction.

For experienced Windows users, it is advised that you select the update options manually and install only what you need (when downloads are available), which includes ‘critical’ and ‘recommended’ system updates.

Only install applications that you need

Sometimes, installing too many software applications on your Windows machine may open the door to unwanted problems and issues. This might also affect other applications which are already installed on your system or the ones that you are trying to install at present.
